Embroidery is such a lovely craft and I cannot recommend it enough. If you are looking for something creative to occupy your evenings, or you have always fancied having a go, I’m here to give you the basic techniques that will set you on your way to stitching up a storm!
If you have ever wondered how to make an embroidery it really is simple. There is no need to buy an expensive kit from Etsy. All you need are a few simple tools and a bit of know how. There isn’t even any framing because the hoop you use to make the piece can double up as the frame to hang it with. Obviously this isn’t the only option and embroidery can be used for lots of different projects like embellishing clothes, decorating a bag or turning a child’s drawing into a keepsake. Whatever project you decide to do, you need the basics, so I’ve done a little downloadable PDF with pictures to help you get started.

I have chosen a simple flower design that I my friend Lulu drew for me, but you can use any image you like. If you are good at drawing then let your imagination run wild and express yourself through the thread.
If you fall in love with this craft, there are some great tutorials on YouTube that will teach you more complicated stitches and some lovely groups on facebook that offer support and inspiration. I can particularly recommend one called ‘Embroidery, Cross-Stitch and Needlepoint’ which is full of nice helpful people. They welcome anyone who loves embroidery whether they are an expert or a beginner.
Happy stitching!
